It might not be too late to offer it if you contact the mods and have an extra offer slot (or want to remove something you know that no one is requesting).

Coalie it’s definitely too late. They can still treat but theres no reason for the mods to change their offers and rerun matching, wtaf lmao

In other exchanges mods sometimes take late requests like this if they're waiting for unmatchable participants to get back anyway. But, yeah, not in yuletide.

Does the matching just take too long to run? When I mod stuff, someone adding an offer might shear off an IPH if the algorithm matches stuff differently.

It may have changed but yes usually the mods have to coordinate with Yuletide tech support when they run it. Back when the code was really bad it would affect the entire site. The reason why the support account is on the tagset is for the same reason. Yuletide is so big that it usually uncovers all the bugs and can strain the whole server. You have to remember that of of the unmatchables, they go through and see if they can double assign before reaching out. They would have to do all that over again if they reran.

No, even in Yuletide it doesn't take that long. They updated sign-ups closed post to say there were 5 unmatchable writers when less than an hour had passed from them making the post.

Though I don't think they take "can I change my offers" requests because they don't want to have to faff around with that for 1400 people.

This seems like the main concern.

You have to remember that of of the unmatchables, they go through and see if they can double assign before reaching out.

You're conflating two things.
1. Unmatchables are people for whom there are no possible recipients in the entire set of requests. These people will be the same no matter how you run matching and must be contacted to either change their offers or drop out.

2. Double assigning means assigning two authors to the same recipient, which is the flip side of someone being an IPH - they have no writer, so someone else gets two in order to make the numbers even out. Mods don't "try to" do this; they HAVE to in order to send out assignments. AO3 literally won't let them send out assignments until everyone has a recipient.

it's too late, do not advise this
