Borderline, I think. It really depends on how similar the different versions are and how'd they react if their author did match and used the officially nominated version.

I think per the mods, your request and an author's offer are for whichever version was nominated. You can always mention you've seen/read that other version, but you should be basing any request on what's actually been nominated. Otherwise, it's kind of like showing up late and requesting 'Any' because your fav wasn't nominated.

They say they've read the light novel, so at least there is that. But in the next sentence they say everything in the letter is based on the anime - but they recognise there will be differences. I would be pretty grumpy if I offered, say, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe book and got someone whose requests were based on the movie, which I've never seen, and don't know how close it is.
