actually a 15% decrease in participants is significant?

I don't actually think there will be 15% fewer signups- I'm not the commenter above who was worrying about it. A lot of signups will happen last minute. But it's dumb to pretend it makes no difference if signups do drop by a significant amount.

Prove it makes a difference when Yuletide ran for about 10 years before hitting a thousand participants.

I suppose it might make a difference because of the sheer number of fandoms in the tagset now compared to those 10 years. Couldn't it make matching way more difficult?

Possibly, but there were a hell of a lot of fandoms back then too. Yuletide worked okay when it was much smaller. It will probably still work okay if it shrinks a bit.

Weak AND boring trolling. You're bringing statistical significance into it now? Yawn.

yeah

Didn't participants peak at like 2300? We've dropped over 30% from that and the exchange seems to be functioning fine.

I think 1959 participants in 2012 is the high water mark. I don't think Yuletide has ever cracked 2000 and it stayed that way once drop-outs/duplicates/people without recips/people with bans were taken out of the initial post-closing number.
