It's weird to me that sign-ups are so slow when the nominations numbers were so similar. I doubt we'll get very far over 1000 sign-ups.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 07:45 am (UTC)(link)
You're new, aren't you? Don't worry. There's always a last day rush.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 08:15 am (UTC)(link)
No, I was looking at last year's post, when there were 587 sign-ups with still a week to go, and that was after the sign-ups were mysteriously paused for a few hours after they first opened. We're just over 650 and there's only 4 days to go.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 10:47 am (UTC)(link)
2020 was an outlier in a lot of ways though.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
Sure, but why should it be an outlier in this specific way?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 12:11 pm (UTC)(link)
ncyrt

So, you're new.

Lots happens in the last couple days.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Not this shit again.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
Oh man you scared me for a second! We still have four more days, that's practically next year.

Everybody who didn't sign up in the first rush is procrastinating and won't be ready until at least Thursday.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
RUDE . . . but fair. /procrastinator

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 01:13 pm (UTC)(link)
lol we will. The last day the number ticks up every couple of minutes.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Even if we did, so what? It's not like I participate because of the sign up numbers.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 02:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Disagree. In a rare fandom exchange the more participants the better...

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
1000 sign ups would still be almost twice as much as the next biggest game in town. I'm not saying more participants wouldn't better, but Yuletide ran just fine before it was consistently in the 1300-1600 sign ups range. The handwringing about "low" sign up numbers is annoying.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
This is such a weak trolling attempt. Oh no, there might be 1200 sign-ups instead of 1400, heaven forfend.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
actually a 15% decrease in participants is significant?

I don't actually think there will be 15% fewer signups- I'm not the commenter above who was worrying about it. A lot of signups will happen last minute. But it's dumb to pretend it makes no difference if signups do drop by a significant amount.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Prove it makes a difference when Yuletide ran for about 10 years before hitting a thousand participants.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)

I suppose it might make a difference because of the sheer number of fandoms in the tagset now compared to those 10 years. Couldn't it make matching way more difficult?

(Anonymous) 2021-10-20 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
DC

Possibly, but there were a hell of a lot of fandoms back then too. Yuletide worked okay when it was much smaller. It will probably still work okay if it shrinks a bit.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 03:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Weak AND boring trolling. You're bringing statistical significance into it now? Yawn.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 06:51 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Didn't participants peak at like 2300? We've dropped over 30% from that and the exchange seems to be functioning fine.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-19 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I think 1959 participants in 2012 is the high water mark. I don't think Yuletide has ever cracked 2000 and it stayed that way once drop-outs/duplicates/people without recips/people with bans were taken out of the initial post-closing number.

Go kiss a stinky wombat, troll.
