Enthusiasm. It's a bit of a know it when you see it, but the best letters are infectious, and even if there's an id-mismatch or I'm not confident in being able to write their prompts I'll want to write them something. I don't mean letters can't ever be critical (of canon decisions, characterizations, fanon, whatever), but when it's all this sucks, that sucks I'm left wondering one, why they're requesting the fandom in the first place and two, but what do you want?

Prompts, general likes, things you like in canon you want more of, give me something to work with. Why are you bothering to write a letter when all there is "write whatever you want." I can write whatever I want outside of Yuletide, a big part of what makes Yuletide fun for me is writing for someone. Letters aren't required, and if I see one that gives no more information than a blank sign up it's big someone told me I had to write a letter, but I didn't want to energy.
