Nobody nominated the women in The Nevers?

NA with no horse in this race but I always get a kick out of fandoms where the slash fans show up to get in their rare ships and the femslash fans clearly don’t care about it. It’s never the reverse where a femslash fan is the only one cares about a mainly slashy movie and I don’t know why.

IIRC the m/m is also canon, while the female characters, though they are the leads and spend a lot of time together, are straight and involved with men.

And fandom always follows canon, sure.

I can't speak for the slash/femslash discrepancy, but I fully intend to finish watching the show. Uh, someday. When I have time to binge the whole thing on one month's worth of subscription. Sometime. But I also have other things to watch for femslash where there isn't tedious het, or less of it.

This is the answer. A lot of people probably did watch or will watch but aren’t fannish. Those who like canon mlm prioritized watching it and somebody liked it enough to nom. The canon/fanon wlw fans didn’t bother prioritizing because it is a show for het and mlm fans. Of course a mlm fan is going to like it enough to nominate while someone who likes wlw isn’t going to bother.

Kicking up a fuss that people like gay stuff over implied lesbian or canon het feels like ‘anything with women is inherently progressive’ eat your vegetables bullshit. Shipping isn’t activism.

I don't think it's vegetables/shipping-as-activism, nonnie, it's reasonable to wonder why a femslashy show had only some side m/m nominated.

People try to wank about this every year as if it’s new. Every year on old coal someone would be 🚨 shocked that someone nominated that mlm couple for Babysitters club.

Femslash fans who actually create femslash conent didn’t want the canon, slash fans did, casuals who apparently get upset that other fans like rare characters in rare fandoms pop up with ‘isn’t it interesting that…’

Oh, I'm definitely still surprised that the "mlm couple" for BSC was so popular because it was a non-canon ship between two minor characters who were nine years old in canon.

Not sure who you think I am here, but I'm elsewhere in the thread talking about why The Nevers might not have been a high priority for femslashers while people who like canon m/m were into it. And yet, I still think it's weird that the biggest BSC ship is between two extremely minor characters who are preteen children at the time we see them in canon and barely interact even when we see them. It's weird!

Over a third of the fics in that pairing are either by or for one person, and most of the rest are by or for about three other people. Congrats! You to can make people whine about your rarepair by writing dozens of fic and requesting it in every exchange!

Meanwhile the TV show, which has canon wlw and majority f/f fic, has the four main female chars nommed, so I don't really think the lack of f/f in the book fandom this year is down to misogyny.

Firstly, wait, which ship is canon in the show? And secondly, chill, nonny, it's not misogyny, it's just strange when fandom latches onto minor characters like that sometimes.

Do you realize this is Yuletide. Why are you here if you find it weird people are into specific characters in small fandoms? Welcome to the whole point if the exchange.

I think this is about how it's the largest ship in the fandom, nonny, not it being nominated at YT.

It's literally the only m/m ship in the fandom, the second place one is Sam/Bucky.

Idk, i just recently saw some Tumblr friends squeeing that Claudia was just confirmed gay, but they didn't source it so maybe I'm wrong. (I doubt they'd canonize an MC ship on the show but I believed someone having a coming out storyline.)

Still I think most of the f/f people have moved to the show (as evidenced by my Tumblr friends.)

It's not even that femslash fans didn't want the canon. I remember seeing f/f BSC requests in previous Yuletides.

Also, the current breakdown of top BSC categories on AO3 is Gen (332), F/M (229), F/F (175), M/M (76). It's just that for whatever reason m/m fans in this fandom mostly coalesced around a single ship, while f/m and f/f fans shipped a variety of ships.
