Tracking blockers exist. Also, if I were your author and noticed you were tracking, I'd default instantly.

I also have tracking on my letter (bc I’m nosey) but because of that, I block all trackers. Lots of people have basic browser tracking blocking so they and many others have probably looked but just don’t ping. The best way to get a true hitcount is to use an image site that tracks impressions since those only get blocked if their disable all images.

Decline social obligations you don't want to go to. Decline travel you do to want to so.

People's disapproval is only a consequence if you care about their feelings or opinions.

(Or if they're holding hostage access to your siblings/livelihood/inheritance/something else you care about, in which case you have all my sympathy)

Seriously though, think about saying yes and then doing exactly what you want which is not going, and channeling your your popcorn.gif amusement for coaltide wank at your family wank.

The beauty of being an independent adult is that most people don't need an excuse, like a plague, to say no and then follow through on that no.

The alternatives to "I feel uncomfortable asking someone do sensitivity read for free" are: get over your discomfort and ask anyway; don't bother using a sensitivity reader; or pay someone to do it.

I really wish the side of fic fandom was more like art side of fandom when it comes to commissioning works and services.

Yes, and the best alternative is "don't bother using a sensitivity reader". It's a ridiculous demand to ask or hire a sensitive reader for your fic exchange assignment. This isn't even worth considering.
