#35 is all video games and nothing else. If you don't do VG you aren't picking that one up.

#21 is pretty specialized RPF, a mid-90s MG book series they've only read one of, and a 2015 French show they haven't seen all the way through. A lot of people don't like to write for recips who haven't finished a canon.

#23 has good descriptions of the canons and even some links to find them, but the letter is really intimidating. If you wanted to include some dialogue or phrases or hey write the whole fic in any dialect of what used to be called Serbo-Croatian, I’m here for that with bells on!....No way would I pick that up, I couldn't write them anything close to what they wanted.

Has someone ever languished in pinch hits? Like literally nobody wanted to write a story for them, so the mods ended up having to write one themselves /frantically consume a canon?

It's the second year for FIAB and Heart Attack, too. I wonder if triple crown is going to mean fewer people do YT if it goes on for a while.

I’m an exchange regular who did sign up, but I’ve taken a massive step back from exchanges for mental health reasons this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if a number of other people are in similar boats. Yuletide’s the first exchange I’ve done in a while this year because it’s my absolute fave, but I know a number of my other exchange-regular friends are sitting it out because they’re on exchange hiatus or just busy.

I do do video games and #35 is impressively hardcore.

one game is 10 years old and has to be played on an emulator with a fan translation patch.

one game, Judgement, is more accessible, (unless you don't have a ps4) but howlongtobeat clocks it as 42-95 hours, not exactly a quick pick up.

and the last game is motherfucking SHENMUE! Which if you don't know, Shenmue is a classic that achieves its legendary immersion through legendary tedium. you can find playthroughs and cutscene compilations online but you'll probably just end up watching the rant reviews.

#11 is requesting four characters from Vampyr, all of which would be difficult for me to put together in a single short fic. The couple of prompts they give leave me the impression they might not know this means all four of them have to be included in their gift.

If I don't hear back in a week I'll do some canon review to see if it shakes loose more ideas.

I genuinely meant "I love everybody nominated for this fandom, I will be happy with any of them" and followed it up with a bunch of prompts. It could use more explanation, definitely, but it's a useful option.

Same. I use it every year because for yt I genuinely want anything in my tiny fandom.

The only time it's gone wrong was the year I got OC badfic in a different, but related, fandom, but that was a treat anyway.

The book seems to have only been published in the UK, too. I looked it up because it seemed like something I could read and throw up a minimal fill in an afternoon, but there are only three copies in any libraries in the entire US (and given which libraries, I doubt I could even get it via OCLC. The Amazon and Abe copies all ship from the UK and given givens I wouldn't count on them arriving in time. In theory there's an ebook but I can't find anyone selling it. There are UK pinch hitters but that really reduces the pool.

Maybe in one of the earlier Yuletide years. Now, I could see that happening for last minute PH's but for ones this early in the cycle, no, I can't remember that happening.

For awhile there were a couple kittyfic writers who would take anything and write badfic based on summaries and the mods would go to them specifically if they were stuck, but that was not a highly appreciated practice and I think they've all quit fandom.

IIRC way back in the day they'd occasionally have to ask people to drop out or add fandoms though.

No one is hiring a sensitivity reader for their Yuletide assignment.

I think don't think it's fewer signups, but iirc there were more noms even though there were fewer signups. Which means more people than usual either nommed and didn't sign up, or socked up for noms only. That would've messed up the noms/offers ratio and made matching harder.

Sources for that? Cause that's not how I remember it.

#35 does offer a link to a cutscene movie for Black Panther/Kurohyou which amounts to ten videos anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour each.

I haven't looked because I don't sail the seas much anymore now that I have fifteen ebook library cards, but if anyone knows of a small, literary, uk-friendly port and posts a link here it would probably greatly increase the odds of the pinch hit going.

I'm dubious an official-release ebook really exists though and it doesn't seem like the kind of thing somebody would be super motivated to home OCR and share.
