I'm a bit confused. In their signup they DNW additional info from a related fandom because they haven't consumed it yet, but in their letter they welcome it because they have. I guess the DNW is from a previous exchange and they've since gotten around to related fandom? I can naturally write the fic without including anything from that canon, it's not a problem, but I do feel a little bummed about a missed chance for both of us.

Honestly, I'd be really bummed if a friend cared more about maintaining one week of secrecy than writing me the fic of my heart, which they would otherwise have written.

I matched on something I offered last minute because I saw the letter and thought it sounded fun. I still think it sounds fun, but man, I hope I didn't bite more than I can chew. There's a lot of research in my future! I'm super excited about it, though!

I got the fandom I'm most enthusiastic about! The only catch is that my recip has asked for this fandom a zillion times before and received some fics that are way way out of my league, I hope they're not disappointed with mine by contrast.

To be fair, I'm gunning to have a draft up this afternoon - it won't be fully finished, but it's an idea I've been kicking around in the back of my head for a while, for a recipient I've written for twice before (they ask for very similar stuff each year, so I keep a file of "oooh that might work for X" ideas through the year!), in a fandom I know like the back of my hand, so...

Did they request 'any' and that's how you matched? They took the risk then that someone who offered specific characters would want to write those characters and not worldbuilding.

Yes, it's custom in a lot of RPF fandoms. It makes it harder for the people the fics are about to stumble across them.

IDGI, worldbuilding in conjunction with characters is a really common thing to prompt for. Is there a reason you’re not answering whether they requested characters?

It might not instantly give you away; I was the recip in this kind of a match and my friend wrote me the thing we'd been talking about and I had NO IDEA and it was AWESOME
