Oooh yes, very true. I know this recip, and they leave pretty short but sincere comments, so I'm not concerned on that front. You're right, though, I wouldn't take a risk otherwise.

I had a feeling it was probably going to happen to me, but jeez, I'm still kind of scared that nobody's going to pick up me and my stupidly obscure fandoms.

I got someone who didn't get the message that worldbuilding is now a nominatable character...

So yeah, I'm definitely considering an insta-default. I'll give it a day or two to think about whether I'm comfortable with ODAO.

Someone I've never heard of before, short prompts, but they seem really easy going, like all the right things, it's one of my long-term fandoms and I will enjoy writing them something they will (hopefully) love. And it's shippy, thank goodness.

I actually like being an IPH in some ways! More surprise, for one—usually I know exactly which fandom I’m getting just from the signup summary. But there’s that fear of being the last one picked up, or lingering an embarrassing length of time.

SA! I take everything but the id mismatch back! I'd followed a wrong link in their sign-up. Their letter's great, the actual details are charming, and, while we do have an id mismatch (my id mismatches most of fandom's), we have enough likes overlap for our mutual fandom that I'm pleased. Never judge when hangry, that's the lesson here.

Coalie, I'm looking at a request of three super obscure fandoms by an exchange person I like but have never crossed paths with, and I am absolutely willing to pick up one of these fandoms for them. I'm not claiming their pinch hit yet because I have to do my assignment first and I also hope a better writer than me will pick it up, but let's just say someone out there is thinking the same about you, coalie, and you will get that fic in the fandom of your heart.

Just so you're aware, that pinch hit is going to be gone with 12 hours, realistically probably within 6 hours. So if you're thinking of treat, all good! But if you're planning to pick up the pinch hit later, uh, it will not be there.

Trust me, coalie, you won't linger. Nearly every time I want to pick up a PH I can't, because it's gone already. They get picked up way faster than people think, and it's great! :D

Writing good comments requires time and effort (and for me, getting over the fear the writer can instantly tell I'm a pleb who isn't a tenth as skilled as they are and my comment is drudgery for them). Plenty of people will put in time and effort for someone who's done a specific act specifically for them - write them an exchange gift - but not for every random fic in the wild they like.

Couple of options for fandoms, good prompts, and some room to go in my own direction too.
