In other exchanges mods sometimes take late requests like this if they're waiting for unmatchable participants to get back anyway. But, yeah, not in yuletide.

They say they've read the light novel, so at least there is that. But in the next sentence they say everything in the letter is based on the anime - but they recognise there will be differences. I would be pretty grumpy if I offered, say, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe book and got someone whose requests were based on the movie, which I've never seen, and don't know how close it is.

Update, the caps were because I was confusing the above letter with the "fictive of a Chinese character" letter, which honestly makes this letter look almost sane in comparison. So never mind, this isn't great but it's not terrible.

There's requesting an OW version of a character and then there's *literally naming the character* that they want the numbers filed off of.

I got lastwingedthing. Perfectly decent letter, a good amount to go on, I feel like I could work with this if I HAD to. And I've read a couple of the Old Kingdom books, so I have a head start. I probably wouldn't keep it - it doesn't quite pass the threshold for things I could write with confidence. But I'd throw it back with no ill will.

In neither case would I think it was odd that the letter-writer *didn't* include a more like that, but I wouldn't take it as am accusation if they did. With Lovecraft especially, there's a strong tradition of confronting/interrogating his racism so it's not unthinkable either that an author might decide to write Critical Race Lovecraft or that a recipient would want to make it clear that they don't want that.

Does the matching just take too long to run? When I mod stuff, someone adding an offer might shear off an IPH if the algorithm matches stuff differently.
