The first person I got with a letter I had actually looked at their letter before -- one of their requests is for Shang-Chi which I have seen although wouldn't feel super confident writing for. Actually the thing that throws me the most is that they've requested 3 characters, and while their prompts imply you could just write 2 of those, they haven't explicitly said that. So I would probably want to clarify that before I go around accepting the assignment ...

Yep! Finally someone with some sense in this thread.

I decided to do it again, and got ionthesparrow, so I'm 2 for 2 finding a letter on the first try.

They've got a fandom I know somewhat well that would just need a quick canon review, a canon I know vaguely but could probably pick up, and a 5 min fandom that looks interesting that I wouldn't mind picking up. Plus our ids match. I'm keeping it.

10/10, would roll dice again.

Actually, I have been meaning to watch Legend of the Galactic Heroes for ages now ...but I think my 100+ episode anime series days are behind me.

Second try: Dorinda! Who would actually be a legitimate match for me this year, we have official overlap on one fandom and I'm familiar with two more, and I would 100% keep that assignment if I had the chance.

I got skieswideopen on the second try. At a glance their letter seems like a juicy one with good prompts, but I don't know any of their fandoms at all, and they're all TV shows, so not easy pickups. I'm going to have to throw this fish back.

I got rainingover, who does have a letter! I don't know their fandoms, but going by likes and DNWs they're a great match for me id-wise, so I'd pick up one of their fandoms for sure.

I got travelingpsycho on my first roll who has a letter. They want two RPF fandoms, one for what looks like a Netflix adaptation of a cnovel and one for a j-pop band, so that's way outside my wheelhouse. Their third request was for a film called Begin Again, which at first I thought was a Keira Knightley/Mark Ruffalo romcom, but now I realise is a cdrama. Unfortunately the main couple is M/F which I would rather not write, so I'd ask the mods for a new assignment.

I thought there wasn't much that could scare me in letters anymore, but "requester is a multiple system with wildly differing preferences" would scare the living crap out of me if I had to write for it, ngl

My question there is, why would you not just keep separate AO3 accounts and yuletide signups?

First username was someone with a letter and good taste in tropes, however none of their fandoms are ones that I know and mostly aren't in mediums I tend to gravitate towards. Probably would not try to get into them unless I found a way to do it for free.

Second username also had a letter and has hilarious prompts for a five-minute fandom, I would definitely write for them!

I got boasterkeaton, who does have a letter. Could I write them? Yes! They requested The Mighty Ducks which was one of my childhood faves. Well-organized letter with plenty of prompts. I don't think it's enough to want me to write Mighty Ducks fic but I certainly could write something for them if need be!

Share the second? I'm always down for a five minute fandom.

I got Pammie. I could definitely do something with Hot Goth Lady and Himbo Witch and Fair Maiden, but I might not be as enthused about it as they are!

I'm not quite as clear on what they're asking for with their tarot prompts.

I got Elemental, who has no fandoms I could write for. Their letter, however, requests Regarding Reincarnated to Slime (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime), which, it turns out, they want the Anime, but accidentally nominated the Light Novel.

Their letter implies it's totally fine and they're basically the same, but I'm imagining any of my canons that exist in more than one form and can't imagine how that's a fair request. Anycoalies able to tell me if they are that similar or if this is a dick move?

Piano Man (user Settiai)--has some goofy slash interpretations of the song via Tumblr.

If it wasn't for the racekink, I prefer no "please don't make it racist" for Lovecraft. I dislike the presumption that because I want to write tentacle monsters I'd also write racist fic unless someone helpfully reminded me not to.

I wrote mostly pre 1960 canons and I don't expect to be warned not to write sexism and antiSemitism either, I take that as a given.

Person with a letter is PluralForce, who seems like someone I could write for easily if we actually shared a fandom, it's a nice letter with just the right amount of detail in the prompts. If we'd really matched I might just catch up on reading Ajin.

GlassHeadcanon; first time YT participant, which always makes me want to try, and the letter is a fine letter, but man I'm not in the mood for consuming new canons, even though theirs have a bit of variety (a book, 2 animes, a movie...). Return to lake on assumption they'll get a better match.
