my bet is they match to someone who doesn’t want porn or who has gen prompts and so they default, and then their author defaults so they end up with nothing, or their author goes odao and they get a fic that doesn’t have porn/slash and so they effectively got nothing

Saw 'pastiche' in someone's DNW and now I'm wondering if I understand the term. I've always used it as 'close imitation of the original style'. Is this person DNWing fic that sounds too close to the style of the canon, or am I a dumbass who's misused this word for my whole life, or...?

A bit more context, they also say "I really don't groove on pastiche or non-narrative formats in fanfic."

If they’d just DNWed “race-bending AUs”, I wouldn’t have noticed at all. That’s a totally normal and non-wanky DNW! But the way it’s phrased makes it sound like it’s fine to make all the non-white people white, but you MUST keep all the white people as-is, which… yikes. I want to be charitable and assume this happened because the requested characters here happened to be white, so the reverse wouldn’t come up for this exchange, but the horrifying dom/sub rant doesn't leave me feeling very charitable. :/

If they're requesting books that a bit of an odd choice, but if they are asking for tv shows/movies/plays/manga/whatever they could mean not!fic or chatfic or whatever meaning they don't want it in screenplay/script format?
