You're talking about people opting into art treats, right? Art isn't allowed as a main gift for Yuletide. (Isn't there usually a mini-challenge posted for people who want art?)

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 02:55 am (UTC)(link)
It's not bad, but it is annoying. I'm willing to invest time in a promo'd fandom because I think there's going to be at least one guaranteed request.

I don't think you should sign up if you're not excited for Yuletide tho.

Prompts for artworks, I mean :)

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, I use the promo post for picking up new things to consume, so even if there are no requests it's not net negative.

Sorry, you're not making any sense at all to this coalie.

Re: Letters You Want

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Huh. I took all my art prompts out of my letter. Should I put them back in? How would interested artists even find them?

I think they mean prompts for literal art as in people wanting fic for Mona Lisa, etc.

Usually there is an art treat post that goes up though. You could add your art likes in a comment there similar to Crueltide/Yuleporn.

I love that there's someone out there who wants exactly what I want to write for many different fandoms, I just wish that those requests were spread out across different people requesting them because I don't want to write for the same person too often :)

cyrt

That makes so much more sense. I'm really tired, lol.

Re: Can you DNW OOCness?

Biiiitch that is wanky as hell, I love it.

The problem here is that you clearly don't know how to ask for what you DO like, what you DO want, what you see as the core of their characterization, and are instead pushing that responsibility onto the rando assigned to you, who you are already assuming is a dumbass and a bad writer. Fucking exquisite.

Ha. Harsh but true.

I'm halfway through a nostalgia TV show that I had remembered loving when it first aired. I found a free way to watch the complete episodes, and I'm enjoying it just as much as the first time I watched it! Even though it's super dated and whoa the sexism and creepy sexualization of the female lead!

Re: Canon Recs - Canon m/m books

Different coalie just came here to mention Edward Edward. It has m/m Regency-era parent/child incest as a central pairing focus, and another m/m romantic relationship between the lead and his firebrand university frenemy.

Re: Best Yuletide Memories?

Someone prompted something incredibly juicy but just out-there enough that my brain went "...how would that work?" and that was enough to kick off one of the most fun, involved, and pleasantly challenging writing experiences of my entire life. It's still what I look back on in terms of what I want to be able to achieve more often, really stretching my comfort zone and giving my skills a meaningful workout, and it would never have happened if not for this person letting their freak flag fly in the best possible way. I've written for them since then and it's always a blast but that was just such a high point in an otherwise dreadful year for me, getting to totally immerse in writing something fun.

Me too!!! Even multiple ones I feel good about offering "any" on!

Re: Swaps!

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
"bonkers" is not specific, what do you mean?

Re: Swaps!

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
clearly spending more than $60 by a large degree

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Wow I'm envious.

I have a bunch of fandoms I'm interested in treating, but far fewer I like enough to risk being assigned a recip whose prompts I don't like. I may do a second pass before sign ups close for single request fandoms with good letters.

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"but would I really be excited about *any* request?" is a significant part of my third pass.

+1

The Left Handed Booksellers of London has been on my TBR for a while and seeing it in the tag set gave me the kick in the pants that I needed to actually start reading it.

I would love to see some epistolary prompts!

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 06:50 am (UTC)(link)
...Yeah, it sounds like you do think it's bad, actually.

Re: Things you request every Yuletide

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
I went back to look at my requests over the past five years and somewhat embarrassingly, I apparently request, out of a pool of six books, at least three of those books every year...

(Anonymous) 2021-10-18 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Does anyone know what the rate was like last year? Are we tracking about the same? I assume there's a big flurry at the beginning and end each year.
