Every year, without fail, I see a canon in the tagset that I didn't nominate and think, "hey, I'd like to read fic about that!" and put it in my requests without any real ideas or prompts. It probably comes across as the one I'm least excited about.

I wish that, even if I don't get anything written for it/no treats at all/a shitty gift in general, at least some people get into my Favorite Tiny Obscure Fandom because of the promo post i wrote for it. that's all i want. i want other people to love it. fic being written for it is definitely a bonus because i'm carrying the tag on my fucking back at this point but i just want it to be loved for how good it is

In my experience, it tastes like flavourless fat (think unsalted butter) and not smooth, kinda brittle, and doesn't melt on the tongue.

- total ODAO / against the spirit of the request
- OOC, terrible, sloppy SPAG
- tried to give you what you wanted but got it wrong / id mismatch

These go from 'objectively shitty, bad behavior' to 'sincere good faith effort that failed'.

Unlike coal above, I don't think coal automatically means that the writer somehow behaved badly. It just means it's a gift that the recip hated. Which could be because the writer behaved badly. But accidentally giving coal while trying to write them the fic of their heart is always possible.

I did FiaB and I wrote my recip a single 10k+ fic. If they didn't want that, they shouldn't have signed up for a 10k+ exchange.

The cardinal sin of mystery writing is withholding information the detective knows or revealing information they have no way of knowing, and tight POV helps with avoiding this. I can imagine present tense being useful too.

I tried a Hershey's Kiss once and it absolutely tasted of vomit. I have no idea where that particular chocolate sits on the ladder/how valued it is by Americans as a chocolate, but ugh. It was disgusting. /Aussie coalie
