I feel like it's maybe that present tense gives less of a concrete sense of how much time is passing, which can work nicely for capturing a moment in detail without making readers hyper-aware that we've just spent X number of words on very little actually happening outside the characters' heads, but can also be used to create a surreal and dreamy feel where things are disconnected, or evoke a sense of days running together and characters being stuck in a rut or particular frame of mind. OTOH, I feel like something plotty or fast-paced like a mystery or action thriller that relies on things clicking together over a clear timeframe or wants to create a sense of urgency and race against the clock works better in past.

Present. Not a fan of past tense. Not to the point where I would DNW it, and a good writer tailoring a story to my likes can sell me anything, but in the wild I almost always enjoy present tense more.

Yes, exactly. I assume that's why a lot of people like present tense for pwp/porn. I don't read porn, but I can imagine that present tense would feel appropriate for it, because of that sense of immediacy and "capturing a moment in detail."

Best: I love every comment that says I've nailed the character voices, and got one for an especially tricky canon. Also, once got a positive comment from the author of the canon!

Worst: I've been blessed to not get anything truly bad, but my very first Yuletide I had a "hit" fic and I'll never get that many comments again.

I ofter request slash and i still think dnw:non canon ships or unrequested ships is perfectly valid. If you dont ship the dudes in this fandom then that's that

I kind of worried that my writer would think this with one of my requested fandoms because I was kind of like "I'd love anything" in comparison to my other fandoms where I gave more information/prompts, but that's only because I would genuinely love anything with the fandom/character I requested and didn't want to restrict them. So I'd say write it, coalie!
