Does anyone have any suggestions for getting myself enthusiastic about my assignment when I'm really not? My recip hasn't done anything in their request/letter to make me want to just cut my losses with 1001 of whatever, but their prompts do nothing for me

Long gifts are amazing and I love them! Please give me a long fic.

However a good long fic can be super intimidating to comment on and set off my commenting anxiety real bad.

And a bad long fic is purgatory - I'll read anything for a couple thousand words but once we cross the point where I would otherwise have back buttoned, I am gritting my teeth real hard.

Please write lots of longfic for the other recips in my fandoms, basically, so I can read it but also back button if needed.

Reviewing canon is the #1 thing for me. It helps me remember why I offered the canon in the first place. After that, I sometimes find it helpful to brainstorm a list of why, exactly, I enjoy the canon so much, and then try to figure out a fic that taps into those aspects.

Ignore their prompts for a second. What's something you really like about the fandom? What's a trope you really like in general? How could you combine your answer to those questions? Now, keeping that idea in mind, what's the smallest thing you would have to change to fit one of their prompts/avoid their DNWs? Having done that, what's the smallest thing you could change to better fit their likes/prompts? Are you done, or can you repeat that step?

I have also done this -- not every Yuletide, but last year I did. Some people are just fast writers, particularly if we get prompts that inspire us! :)

Dick Grayson canonically has a great butt. That means technically any Batman: Wayne Family Adventures (except the two that leave Dick out) prompt counts as a request for butts.

The answer is always canon review. There will be some line or reference that sparks your imagination and you can bang out 1k easy.

Aside from that, finding another letter that inspires you is also good. Either that exact fandom, or a "similar" fandom. So if your fandom includes a long suffering straight-man and a OTT violent partner, go look at other police procedural letters. You will probably find something with a similar dynamic that you can use to inspire.

None of the prompts contain the word "clown" in a way that seems to mean actual clowns, so I think you might be out of luck here.

magpiemountains has asked for a fandom I know nothing about, Maid Maleen (Fairy Tale), with a prompt that potentially allows for clonecest although they do DNW PWP and infidelity and it sounds like the clone person may be a wife.

silveradept is asking for Tetris fic, and Tetris canonically repeats the pieces, so maybe there is some leeway for clonecest here?

Traincat's Fantastic Four request potentially allows you to write an AU version of the Clone Saga and have Peter/Ben/Johnny happening.

TrueColours' Alex Rider (TV not book) request is for Alex/Julian, which isn't technically clonecest but Julian has been surgically altered to look like Alex and trained to act like him, so mayyyybe?
