I am reading letters as well as OD, but extra points are given for good OD.

Most Wanted

AstroGirl: OD are good, DNWs are entirely manageable. Letter is short but adds details that make me relatively sure I could write for them and we would both enjoy the experience.

Fine for Assignment or Treating

AngstBlanket: OD are brief but workable. Letter is interesting but intimidating -- the focus on alternate storytelling/IF/experimental fic would make me think twice before treating, but I might do it anyway.

Kass: OD are good. No letter or DNWs, but the prompt is appealing enough to me that I might treat them anyway.

ofunaq: OD are good. No letter, but they explicitly say they have no DNWs, so I'd worry less about that. The prompt I'd write is a bit vague, but I could work with it.

Acceptable Assignment, Would Not Treat

Aquamaris: Good letter, OD sparse but present. For me, the non-canon relationships DNW would not work well with my ideas for their prompts. So I wouldn't treat this person, but I'd survive being assigned to them.

Fresne: The OD are good, but there are no DNWs and there's no letter. I could write for this person, but they're getting missing scenes from the canon. I wouldn't treat.

horchata: The OD are good, but the letter is locked and there are no DNWs. If assigned to them, I'd be outlining and irritably waiting to ask the mods for an unlock. Would not treat.

possibly_opposite_opossum: No optional details or DNWs, single prompt in letter. But I know I could write it, so I'd survive being assigned this. Would not treat.

toomanysecrets: The OD are just DNWs and the letter says it's unfinished, but there's a good bit of content in it. The prompts are fine. But several other people have similar prompts without the threat of a letter update. So no treat, but I could write for them if I had to.

everythinginstatic: Four characters requested, no OD, no letter. I would hate being assigned to them and would give them 1001 words of banter. Would not treat.

The Blue Escapist: The prompt calls for an AU where Eleanor and Chidi finally get to be happy together. That happens in canon, and there's no other explanation of the AU. The linked letter just says "Might come later." I would prefer a blank signup to this one. This is the worst request in the set.

Tiriel: Four characters requested, a single line praising the show, and a promise of more details in their letter, which is still blank. I'd scream.

same, here's hoping the weekend brings updated letters! I have an idea of what I ~could~ write for the requested characters but obvs I want to give them something they're actually requesting and not just a random story with the characters they like

I love getting ficlets! I always like getting Madness gifts and I find lots of short, sharp fic very clever. I'm less thrilled about the drabbles that are part of that challenge because I feel like some of those participants are just doing a Yuletide speedrun and don't really care about the results, but I've gotten a couple of good ones from that, too.

what's the difference between a drabble, a ficlet, and a ~1000 word fic?

drabble - exactly 100 words

That one Aggretsuko request that only prompts Retsuko x Fem!Reader. Like, I respect that you want to ship yourself with a red panda, but maybe give your writer a few more options.

Apparently yes! I discovered that recently, and I'm kind of impressed they kept going.

Actually, yes. That's when my job winds down for the holidays every year, so I suddenly have a significant amount of writing time. I try to have my assignment mostly done by deadline time but I've churned out a total of 20 or 30 thousand words worth of treats in that in between week in years past.

Correct. I have no intention of opening a new post before the next major Yuletide date or if this post hits 5k. I am a benevolent tyrant however so if someone has a case for why they think 2.8k comments and after all fics have been revealed is a good time for a new post, I will listen to it.

Best: Honestly, so many of them, but especially the longfic from a friend who had been working on an unfulfilled request of mine since the year before.

Worst: Okay fic in a fandom not in the tagset that year and that I have never requested. I had mentioned it on social media during the Yuletide period, so maybe that was why? But I don't really know the fandom, so it was hard to comment well.

Thanks for confirming! I realized I was thinking of last year when we had a new post up with assignments. It certainly still feels like 2020 in some ways. Ha!

Yuletide discord pretty quiet lately.Hmmm…

For me, a drabble is exactly 100 words. A ficlet is anything under a thousand words, though in the middle 300-800 range most of the time. A fic is anything a thousand words and up, and then it's just like 'short fic' and 'long fic' and 'rivalling Proust.'

that week is a pretty common week for people to start taking vacation so yeah, it might be the time they have to really write
