Nobody asked for HP and nobody complained that they did. Someone requested fandoms not even nominated, and it was mentioned that maybe soon someone would try to get in some megafandoms. It has been since explained that it wouldn't work, so it's a non-issue.

It's and not or. They don't want X/Y where X is under 25 AND Y is over 35. The 10-year age gap is the part they're saying they don't want. It's not a hard cutoff of no-shipping-anyone-under-25-at-all because they're okay with ships where both people are under 18.

It was my eighth result, everything else on the first page was like, people's names and product codes.

It's really not a common acronym outside ffa circles coalie, I don't know what to tell you.

You cannot possibly judge me for this more than I judge myself.

In my case it's because I only realize in the week before the deadline that the fic I'm writing wants to be 20k and I need to frantically begin a different one.

This happens every year, for virtually every exchange. I don't know why I never learn, or why I can't just start with the 5k fic that I will end up writing.

Oh, you absolutely should judge me.

The thing is, I write a lot of pinch hits. I start a lot of my fics "late" because I'm frantically finishing up the previous pinch hit. Your honour, I submit I would be a much more timely and responsible participant if there were more pinch hitters to share the load.

(I am assuming the defaulters that cause the pinch hits are participating in good faith, and occasionally need to prioritize other things than fic exchanges.)

Best: a very enthusiastic comment from a newbie who hadn't participated in other exchanges so I had no reference of their commenting style. I love writing for people who don't feel pressured to overperform in comments.

Worst: one line from a recip saying thanks for writing, I'll have to go and reread this book now because it's been years and I don't remember anything. Basically conclusive proof I wrote for the fandom they used to pad out requests.

You....could try learning. Start early, work patiently, and write the 20K fic. Or start early, work fast, and write the 5K fic in plenty of time to try the 20K. Or any other combination.

The trick is to embrace the hard work of changing your habits instead of moping about the consequences of those bad habits.
