Coalway to Hell

Yuletide Weather Forecast:

Temperatures are estimated to fluctuate between active panic and total apathy into the next weekend. Main assignments will have a minimum temperature of regret and a complete climate change once editing is complete. Expect treat writing to continue at all free hours unless the dangerous front of procrastination cropping up in the Northeast successful moves into the area, effectively killing the treat storm conditions for the season.

More Impressive Game

Gut reactions only.

1. Come up with two types of comments that would make you go "dang"
2. Coalies will tell you which one they think is arbitrarily more impressive

Forty 1k treats or four 10k treats?

Forty 1k treats

Four 10k treats.

+1

If I cut myself off at 1k and was more strict with reserving my time for treating, I feel like I could pull off 40 short treats. But I cannot for the life of me write the bare minimum of what could be called longfic.

Four 10k treats. Receiving, because writing forty comments would probably make me have a stress meltdown, whereas I would love four longer, meatier explorations of my requests. Writing, because I'm always wishing I could write those longer, meatier explorations for other people. I just find that kind of writing more satisfying.

A letter that inspired 15 treats or a letter that inspired a 150k fic?

150k fic woooooowwwww

As a treat less person, the idea of 15 treats makes me super jealous, so that. :-)

15 treats, 150k fic says more about the author than the letter I think.

Authors note saying they got into the fandom because they liked the recip (as a person) vs. Authors note saying they got into the fandom because they were so inspired by the letter (as in thought the prompt was so cool that they consumed the canon in order to write it)

Imo liking the recip

I’ve had people tell me both, but I think doing it for prompts is more impressive? I wouldn’t turn away the fics I got because they liked me as a person, but I do kind of feel like they just wanted my comment or to pay me back for a fic I wrote that they loved. When someone says my prompt did it, especially when other people requested it too, it feels like your ideas are sooooooo amazing that the actual canon is secondary, they just needed context to make your headcanon a reality, which is so flattering 🙈

Personally, I’ve gotten into fandoms because of letters but never actually managed to get into anything for people who have treated me before/left me nice comments...does that mean it actually is harder and therefore more impressive after all 🤔

100 comments all of the recip losing their mind with detailed praise or 100 comments from individual people

Re: More Impressive Game

(Anonymous) 2020-12-24 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like the first one is more impressive, because the recip seems to be having some sort of religious experience, but I would much much much prefer the latter.

All things being equal, I would agree with you. 100 people loving my fic in detail would be great. But if most of the 100 comments are like “this is great!”, “cute!” etc I would be annoyed so I think I lean towards a recip hitting the comment limit 100 times or constantly coming back to reread and finding noew things to love more impressive without further context or guarantees about the individual comment content.

+1 I can't imagine the former unless it is for a crazy long story. If it has 100 chapters and the recip commented on each, then that makes sense. But otherwise, you're talking about a comment that is a factor longer than the fic itself... :/

1001 words for the fandom you want most, or 100,000 words for the fandom you want least*

*Relatively speaking

1001. Please please please.

If this is fandoms in my request, for sure 100k for the one I want "least".

If this is for the fandom I want least in all of YT.... Uh... Yeah, I'd definitely prefer 1k for the fandom I want most.

CYRT yeah, I meant "least" of your requested fandoms

Are they both well-written? Then the 100k for sure. If the writing is poor or mediocre, then 1001 words please (but this has everything to do with the lengths and nothing to do with the fandoms).
