Yuletide Weather Forecast:

Temperatures are estimated to fluctuate between active panic and total apathy into the next weekend. Main assignments will have a minimum temperature of regret and a complete climate change once editing is complete. Expect treat writing to continue at all free hours unless the dangerous front of procrastination cropping up in the Northeast successful moves into the area, effectively killing the treat storm conditions for the season.

Mini-Challenges (App):
YuleSwaps | Interactive Fiction | Wrapping Paper | Seasons Treatings
Yuleporn | Femslash Festivus | Tide of History
YuleBuilding | Two for One | Crueltide | Cheftide

Yuletide Discord for Hippos. Google Group for PHs. F_F wiki for history. [archiveofourown.org profile] yulefairy for treats you can't find a recip for.

They're ridiculous, that's just repurposing a WIP. Which is fine I guess, but not really in the spirit of the exchange.

You have no way of knowing that. Also, how is it against "the spirit of the exchange"? If someone gifted me with a fic for my rarest fandom I'd be thrilled whether it was newly written or not (as long as it doesn't go against my DNWs and so on, but that's a obvious).

Given the context of exchange fic, it could be a "WIP".......that the author has been working on since last year/another exchange that literally only exists because they were inspired by the recip's letter and have been working on it forever to finally gift it to them now.

And what if they're not. As others have said, they may have gamed the process to get a fandom they're already interested in writing and been ready for the exact prompts they got. All of November can be a long time to write (also see: Nanowrimo). It's not out of the scope of possibility that someone got really motivated and just wrote that much.

One of my mutuals has been posting weekly yt updates as they edged toward and past 50k. I have zero interest in the fandom but I'm pretty sure they really did just start early and write fast, it would be a stupid thing to fake in that much detail for only locked mutuals who don't care about the fandom. It's a fandom that's their primary fandom year=round, which probably helps.

I've written 45k for Yuletide over the course of the week before the archive opens, before. 60k is definitely possible, especially if people make better decisions and start early.
