Yuletide Weather Forecast:

Temperatures are estimated to fluctuate between active panic and total apathy into the next weekend. Main assignments will have a minimum temperature of regret and a complete climate change once editing is complete. Expect treat writing to continue at all free hours unless the dangerous front of procrastination cropping up in the Northeast successful moves into the area, effectively killing the treat storm conditions for the season.

When you're confident enough in your gift that you're reasonably sure the recipient will like it, but know in your heart it won't be a break out hit. Maybe ten people will comment on it, and you're okay with just that.

(I went into previous years with vastly inflated expectations and suffered the resultant disappointment. Now I know that my talent will never rise above "decent enough, but otherwise unremarkable.")

Ten comments is a good number, though! Very solid showing.

I'm usually considered a pretty good writer and I win Yuletide if just my recip and one other person comments, given fandoms... Quality doesn't necessarily overlap with quantity of feedback, especially with rare fandoms.

On of the absolute best YT fics I ever read only has 12 comments, years later, and only received 5 during the anon period. That's just how it goes sometimes if you're writing a rare fandom.

You can't comment that and then not at least hint what the fic was...

God I love that fic, I've reread it several times. It definitely deserves more love.

I read that and thought, “only” ten comments? I can’t remember a time I got more than three or four.

Ten people? More like just my recipient. Everyone besides the two of us is into this fandom for a slash pairing. Not that the rest being into the pairing I wrote would bump the comment count up to ten. It is an extremely tiny fandom.

(I actually prefer it this way.)
