Coalway to Hell

Yuletide Weather Forecast:

Temperatures are estimated to fluctuate between active panic and total apathy into the next weekend. Main assignments will have a minimum temperature of regret and a complete climate change once editing is complete. Expect treat writing to continue at all free hours unless the dangerous front of procrastination cropping up in the Northeast successful moves into the area, effectively killing the treat storm conditions for the season.

The opposite of the venting thread.

After having my very picky but good at concrit beta look at it and enduring the immediate shame that followed, I've finally kicked my stupid almost longfic assignment into shape that I'm not ashamed of!!!

When I signed up for this year's YT I hadn't written anything in over a year. I'd gone through a whole process of, like, coming to terms with the loss of my identity as a writer blablabla.

But I signed up for YT, for fandoms I loved enough to write at least 1000 words for, and now I've written multiple treats and a medium length fic. So. I'm happy.

I'm doing the last edits on my gift and my beta liked it.

I was angsting over not being able to pull off this treat and not giving myself enough time for it (part procrastination, part life), but lo! I actually forced myself to start writing, and it’s coming out adequately! Which is better than nothing!

After struggling with writing anything I actually managed a treat (just madness sized, but still).

I started writing late this year. I didn't open the doc for my main gift until December 15th. But now I've written that story, a last minute pinch hit and two other treats. And I think they're all good!

This has been the worst year of my life (fuck covid) and I haven't been able to write since January; every time I've tried, I've hated everything I've done and have given up. I've been doing Yuletide a long time and I really thought I might have to drop out. But I finished my giftfic last night!!! It isn't my shiniest work ever, but I tried really hard and it's complete and written to my recipient's likes.

I'm happy for you, coalie! I know it's a small thing but yay for finishing and not losing your yuletide streak in the face of everything this year has thrown at you.

I really struggled with writing my gift. I posted a bus pass that was technically finished, but I hated the ending and I've been hitting my head against it non-stop for two days. I've finally finished the extended version I wanted to do, and I'm so happy with the story now. I even managed to come up with a summary and a title I don't hate! Now it's just a matter of finding a beta reader for it if I can and give it another read through tomorrow.

I'm so relieved!

Not only did I break 1K, I found a plot and broke 5K with it. I was terrified of only being able to do the bare minimum. There is nothing WRONG with that, unless you're in my head and being a bundle of anxiety about it.
