Yuletide Weather Forecast:

Temperatures are estimated to fluctuate between active panic and total apathy into the next weekend. Main assignments will have a minimum temperature of regret and a complete climate change once editing is complete. Expect treat writing to continue at all free hours unless the dangerous front of procrastination cropping up in the Northeast successful moves into the area, effectively killing the treat storm conditions for the season.

Something you wish you could tell your recip? Say it here.

Dear Recip,

This fic is not great but you are not a great exchange participant so I'm not losing any sleep over it.

Ambivalent regards,
Your Writer

Dear recip (we're DW mutuals):

I'm sorry I defaulted on you when I was really excited and life stuff happened to me. And I'm even more sorry your life is being extra shit right now.

Turns out the story I was working on would probably have hit a bunch of buttons for you in a bad way--I hope I can finish it someday, and I hope when I do it's able to give you good-catharsis.

P.S.: don't worry, it will have warnings up the wazoo and absolutely no pressure to read it at all until/unless you're ready and want to.

Hey I'm glad you did what you needed to do, no one needs the extra stress this year. And next year I'll be ready to read a lot of things I don't think I could handle right now.

Dear recip,

I feel unbelievably lucky to have matched you. I couldn't have asked for a better assignment, especially in an otherwise garbage year - your request was everything I could have wanted and a perfect match to what I like to write in this fandom, and writing for you has been a breeze. Blessings on you, blessings on your cow, and I'm so happy to have been able to contribute to your Yuletide (hopefully) being a good one!

With all my congratulations on being so awesome,

Your Writer

You're very welcome!

Dear recip, I wrote you a story about this character we both like, but the other night I read a (non-exchange) fic about her and I wish I could make that one your gift, because it's exactly what you want and I wish I had thought of it first and written it for you. (I wish I could at least point you to it! You'd really love it! But I don't want you to read it until after you read my fic because otherwise you will be disappointed by your gift.)

Dear recip,

I love the canon we matched on, but I consumed a new canon in your letter because of you and I love that too. So much that I wrote for it.

Anxiously awaiting your comment,
Coalie

Dear Recip,

I wrote you a story. If you wanted a different story, you should have indicated your preferences in one of the multiple ways available to you. Regardless, I really hope you read it, because literally no one else is going to.

You were a very 2020 recipient.

Dear recip

Your letter is still blank and your signup was empty

So I wrote you the story I'd want to receive if I'd requested our shared fandom

I don't actually know whether or not I care if you like it or not anymore

Assigned Recip:
You're a perennial non-commentor, so I wrote this for me. I don't really care if you enjoy it; I know others will.

PH Recip:
No prompts or letter? Another story for me by me! I hope you do emerge from the woodwork and like it, but I'm not counting on it. I doubt anyone else will read this fandom, though.

I tried to capture the dynamic you're looking for, but it's directly contradicted in canon dialogue. Maybe he was lying? Let's go with that, I can lampshade it and try to make it work!

Dear recip,

I've read and enjoyed some of your non-exchange fic for this fandom; you seem to have read and enjoyed some of mine. I don't think our takes on these characters are exactly the same, but I love this fandom and I was thrilled to get to write it for you. I really hope you like this and that none of my interpretations got too out-there for you!

Dear recip:

We clearly have the same taste in books and I wish you were active on dw so I could friend you after!

I'm pretty sure I got you into this fandom and it didn't hit me until now how much pressure I would feel to make this fic good. Please, please like it.

I'd feel a lot more secure about the quality of my fic if I hadn't known you for so long in namespace!

Dear recip,

You were a late PH and you didn't have a letter or any DNWs listed and in your sign-up you didn't have any prompts aside from "I like this era" while listing every possible era of canon.
So I carefully reviewed canon, and went with the one single trope you mentioned you liked, and wrote something I think is good but I got a nice but a little bit of a lacklustre response from you today though which makes me think I didn't really get there for you, or possibly hit on some DNW you didn't mention.
Perhaps next time consider giving your gifter a little more of a wish list to work with.

Thank FUCK you didn't mind the tiny slide into RPF. It was a three line reference to the actor of the character and I was petrified that my recip would flip their shit, but there were reasons why I couldn't just leave it out.
