500 words or less of things you like about the fandom per fandom

3-5 prompts per fandom

Any additional characters or ships you like in the fandom, whether or not they made it into the nomination set

A clear and nonjudgmental DNW list (Good: "DNW: Impact play" Bad: "I think it's sick that people get off hitting their partners so obviously no abuse")

Agree with everything but the prompts. 4+ and there is no such thing as too many unless they’re all variations on the same thing (X and Y fight a dragon on a ship. X and Y fight a dragon in space. X and Y fight a dragon in a cave). At that point if all you want is a dragon fight in any location, have one prompt that says X and Y fight a dragon at any location of your choice and be done with it.

You never know what prompt will attract a treater or inspire your author. People hate tl;dr “why I love this fandom/character” but lots of varied prompts only annoy the people who want to ODAO/write what they already have in mind. ODAO exists so they can still do that, but if you have multiple ideas there is no reason to limit yourself for the sake of limiting yourself.

You’re right. But also to be fair to myself I think people like the kind of “why I love” when it secretly contains prompts or explicitly mentions canon aspects they love. That is fine and wasn’t what I was talking about/why I specified TL;DR “why I love” specifically and not “why I love” generally.

When I say “tl;dr” I mean “I love Supernatural because I also have an incestious love for my brother and have an Angel who I am gay for. It all started in the summer of 1987...” where the section is all about THEM and their TMI info. (If some coalies love to know their recip is also trans, or fell in love with the canon while their mom was dying of cancer, or that they’re super into the second amendment, etc then ok more power to you, CIRT.)

Agreed on the prompt number. Fewer than four or five always makes me anxious that my recip wants one of those three ideas they mentioned and nothing else and they'll be disappointed if they don't get that. More prompts are great. No such thing as too many. :D

Hooray! Mine was just kind of obscure, but very easily Googleable... but what if it was The Algorithm that made it seem easy to me, and to everyone else it was basically like asking for the characters from the label of a Parisian shampoo bottle discontinued in 1973? I had my sources all lined up for if it came up in the query post.

Ridiculous in retrospect, but I'm excited to request it, even if no one bites.

Worst YT gift you’ve ever received and why

Coalies, what’s the worst YT story you’ve ever received a day gift or treat and what made it a terrible fic?

Was it just badly written, or was there another problem?

Was a DNW was included (or was borderline included), were the characters all or partly OOC, did the plot not make sense?

Or was it was unrequested issue!fic or issue-related headcanon, or was the dialogue awful, or was it was written from a POV you don’t like, or just in a style you don’t like to read?

Or was it written by someone you suspect (or know) had limited, rusty or out-of-date fandom knowledge?

I’ve been legitimately really lucky with my YT gifts. All but one of them has been legitimately good.

But that one bad gift fic really pisses me off, even now, because I wrote a gift for the same person a couple of years before they gifted me this coal story. And I know they really liked the gift I wrote for them.

This lump of coal they gave me was an unrequested trans headcanon issue!fic, and in a fandom where such a thing does not work AT ALL. They also came very close to including one of my DNWs, and their headcanon resulted in all my characters being badly OOC, and it interfered with my requested ship.

The best part is that one of my other requested fandoms that year (which I know the writer and I share) features a trans main character in a romantic relationship. It would have been legit the PERFECT fandom to write that issue!fic in. And didn’t need a headcanon to deliver it. Because it’s the ACTUAL FUCKING CANON.

This was several years ago, but still pisses me off.

I think I need new hobbies.
