There are a handful of people in my largest yuletide fandom that have very similar tastes and requests, and I'm taking careful note of the ones who've left nice comments on not just their own gifts but all the relevant-to-their-interests fics in the fandom. If they request the same thing next year, that's who I'll be be treating!

Go for it, but I would recommend waiting more than a week before writing people off. Lots of Yuletide participants comment past the anon period if they’re busy/have a lot of fandoms. If they still haven’t commented by next Yuletide then go off but asking people to read potentially a shitload of fics during a busy time of year within 7 days is...a choice.

but all the relevant-to-their-interests fics in the fandom

If you’re paying that close attention I hope you’re factoring in DNWs too.

It seems so strange to me to put this much effort in when all you really need to know is if they like your fic, but whatever helps you pare down the treat list I guess.

What if they wrote the other fics, Susan?

As someone that sorts the collection by wordcount and will hit the other fics in the fandoms I requested as they appear, please don’t treat me if you need so much ego-stroking that only comments during the anon period that aren’t even from your recip matter to you. No way is your writing good enough to warrant this.

Please tell me what my interests are.

I commented on the fics that were RTMI and closed out the ones that weren’t. I would assume the authors knew that going in, otherwise it could have been gifted to me instead. They made the right choice. If that bothers you: bye.

i commented on some trash this year so you better mean my fandoms and write me a treat - and you better not be the one writing the trash >:(

Same Coalie

...WTF, did I phrase that super badly or is there just a lot of very bad faith going around right now??

What I meant was: There are some people who have been spreading a lot of happiness around this fandom, and my ambition for next Yuletide is to give them some happiness by writing them treats!

What I definitely didn't mean:
That people who didn't do that couldn't have good reasons, or that I would be putting them on a don't-treat list.

DC FWIW, I got what you meant!

It's not a punitive thing. More like, if there were eight A/B requesters who all have similar prompts, and I see a couple of them commenting enthusiastically on an A/B fic I loved or an A/B fic I wrote for someone else, I'll make a mental note to try to treat them if they request A/B again. That seems pretty sensible to me.

I'll also make a mental note to treat someone who wrote an A/B fic I loved, but I generally won't know that at this point in the exchange.

+1

People are being oversensitive, jeez.

Some people are just super combative this year over every little thing. It's like they're trying to make up for how chill things were before the 25th. I wouldn't take it to heart; your meaning was very clear to me!

DC

There are people who literally pick up fandoms to treat the good-commenters, and that's okay. I think you're fine, nonnie.
