(Anonymous) 2019-12-31 04:39 am (UTC)(link)2. Write fics so good that your recips are happy most of the time and other people wish you will write for them in the future
3. Do stuff for the community like code an app or run a spreadsheet or be a good mod
4. Be graceful in a wanky situation that wasn’t your fault
5. Write a lot of treats/pick up a lot of PHs
6. Other things I’m probably forgetting
Yes the list is intentionally subjective, but the objective ones can end up with ars_belli or b_o on it if they hit the required metrics, so there is something to be said for quality picks vetted by the community over pure objective numbers. If you only write one sub-10k fic each year but it is always the fic of your recips dreams, the good egg list is how you get recognition.
Re: Your Rep
(Anonymous) 2019-12-31 11:58 am (UTC)(link)Yes and no. There's someone who's regularly on the Good Egg list who once wrote me half-finished fic with a ship I specifically said I disliked, so some people can slip through the cracks.
It's like the XKCD strip about how you can send one in every 30 eBay buyers a live bobcat instead of what they ordered, and still maintain a 97% satisfaction rating. If the rare bobcat recipients don't want to start wank, you can keep a Good Egg rep for a surprisingly long time.
Re: Your Rep
(Anonymous) 2019-12-31 11:55 am (UTC)(link)It also can backfire if you're on the list for writing very good fic, in that people get nervous about not coming up to your standards. (This is unnecessary; good writers also love getting gifts! But it still seems to be a thing that happens.)
