For Yuletide, none of those are reliable metrics, especially least hits. It tends to just mean "fandoms virtually nobody is familiar with".

Two of those are games I want to finish, so I’ll try to come back once I do! (And see what Shining Series is about.)

Video game fics have it rough in Yuletide, both due to the smaller audience and the time commitment/difficulty of consuming the canon—this definitely isn’t a good metric for worst fic.

Yeah, obscure ones in particular. You can find a no-commentary playthrough video of any Squeenix game, but if you get out into the woods with obscure Sega RPGs...

Though there is a Shining Force longplay on Youtube, I see! Wasn't expecting that.

Sega have been rereleasing older games for current consoles as well, not speedily or anything, but Shining Resonance Refrain got a current-gen upgrade, the earlier Valkyria games got redone, and there's a few others that I can't remember but I know I bought them because they were Sega rereleases.

I wish I'd seen the Shining series request early enough to write for it.

Yeah, if you through the collection by hits, it looks like the least hits contain a lot of video games. Also a lot of presumably more esoteric Japanese and Korean canons.

Um, question: what about fics with no comments, why are they better than this one?

Current worst by ratio - by a pretty long distance - is Crazyhead (TV) "Yuletide Fic", at a .7% kudos rate. That one's locked to archive, though, so I kinda wonder if there was something going on with an out-of-fandom rec or something.

Next up is the The Witch (2016) fic "The Feathers of Your Wings"
with a .1% kudos:hits ratio.

And third is the current lowest-by-kudos fic, which is at 1.4%

(Those are the three lowest total kudos atm too, but reverse order. They're all low enough that getting one more kudos would change the rankings, although the Crazyhead one could double its kudos and still be third-worst. Everything else with hits showing is at at least 2.5%, nearly all over 3%.)

IDK why the Crazyhead fic has so many hits (maybe it got linked on lolmeme or someplace?), but if you click it, it's evident pretty quickly why so few hits turned into kudos.

Can't someone check where it got linked?

It got linked on here because someone was complaining about the shitty formatting, which *is* pretty terrible. Don’t know if it got linked elsewhere.

It's stupid to be obsessed with ratios rather than calling something bad by reading it.

Seriously. I can't believe there's been so little outrage about that. Do you reckon an otherwise equivalent situation where the recip requested an m/m ship rather than an f/f one would have been a higher profile wank?

It happened last year and there was if anything less wank. Although in that case, the requester had an unrequested ships DNW and got a pinch hit.

IME the only time wank gets really big is if the author or recip (or both) are on meme to keep it going.

We all think it’s disgusting and it’s a clear case of badfic. There isn’t any debate to be had over it. Since the recip doesn’t seem to be keeping the hateboner going (unless this is you trying to do so, recip) then we can relate to having a bad Yuletide and not wanting wank haunting us when we just want to be over a trash gift already. Besides, keeping the wank calm may mean that the author won’t stay anon/shift to a sock, and we can know who to avoid.

What more can we do? +1 one another for 900 comments? Have bi discourse wank? Pull bullshit linguistic studies to guess the author when reveals is in 4 hours? If you’re really upset, please treat the recip in their next exchange or write them a NYR.

That Pantene fic looks pretty bad.

The one with sex written as Hngg. Ah-ha mmm. Hngg. was pretty fucking bad. Doom something? Doctor Doom? I don't remember, but it was awful.

I suspect The Witch story is low on kudos vs hits because it's extreme unerage non-con. That person who'd been requesting it for a while seem to have found someone to write it.

I hope the underage noncon recip left a super nice comment.

They did. It's the only comment, and seems likely to stay that way, but the person writing it probably knew that going in.
