Not a plan, but an ambition: I'm so jealous of the people who write those perfectly in-character plotty fics in the 10-15k range, and someday I would like to manage to write one. ;_;

This was me every year until this year, and this year I managed 11k! It had a beginning, a middle, an end and everything.

You can do it, coalie!

It's absolutely doable. Just start writing as early as possible. Every Yuletide fic over 10k that I've written has led to some last minute panic, no matter how well I've planned them. It takes a lot longer to edit and manage a 15k fic than a 1.5k fic!

ayrt

Honestly, I think my main problem is finding an idea of the right length. It's harder for me with canons that I haven't already been thinking about all year. Also, I keep getting assignments where the person has like four lines about what they want, and it's like, fill-in-the-blanks canon compliant moments or post-canon fluff. So possibly "game better" is one of the things I should consider for next year.

DC I'm usually in the longfic lists, and I won't lie -- I choose my Yuletide offers with an eye towards matching with someone who's likely to want longfic, whether that's casefic or post-canon adventures or a get-together for a non-canonical ship.
