Feedback lower this year?

Plenty of people seem to be kudosing fics, but there seem to be fewer comments all around.

I wonder if ppl are still burned out over the holidays... I can see why, as I personally haven't had time to read anything but my own gifts yet (got loads bookmarked for the weekend though!)

For me, it was the exact opposite. I think it depends a lot on the fandom. But yeah, overall people read less than they do outside of the holiday season. It's obvious if you look at the overall stats (hits, comments and kudos) in fandoms that exist outside of Yuletide as well.

I went and looked at the gifts I gave in past years and I have to say while the quantity of comments I've received has undeniably plummeted over time, the comments I do get are a lot longer and more in depth than they used to be.

Not sure if that is a shift in commenting culture in general, or just in the commenting culture of the fandoms I've moved into.

I think the very casual “Nice!” commenters have died off a little bit. The people reading around are more passionate and give more detailed comments and/or the previously short commenters that remain have learned to give a better quality of comment.

I went back and looked at all my past fics in Yuletide collections. I have 18, going back to 2008. In that time I've gotten more 10 comments on a fic during the anon period four times: in 2008, 2009, 2016, and 2018. My median number of comments received during the anon period is 4, and there doesn't seem to be any clear pattern of decrease over time.

OTOH, with one day to go, I have exactly one comment on my fic this year (from my recip), which has never happened to me in an exchange before.

How many people requested/offered the fandom and what is the +/-10 for the total # existing fics for that fandom (e.g if theres 5 fics say 0, if theres 11 say 10, if theres 21 say 20, etc)

I can't really parse your code, but the fandom has several hundred works on AO3.

DA

Nobody wants to hear it but...your fic may be bad? Or the fandom avoids anon, or you need to redate?

Actually I think I figured it out. This is only the second time I've ever written porn for Yuletide, and the other time I only got 2 comments by the end of the anon period. I'm going to blame this on Yuletide's demographic. (Shhhh, if you disagree, don't tell me. XD)

That could be it! (It doesn’t explain why the rest of the fandom hasn’t shown up though. On vacation maybe???)

It’s not great for me, but then I found an email from last year where I whine that all is lost and I should never write again. That very fic has over 200 kudos right now, so I’m gonna unclench and give it time.

It seems pretty similar or maybe even ahead of last round for me. Little behind a couple years ago, but that year was an outlier for a variety of reasons.
