OP, I remember this! Despite enjoying their writing previously, I was one of the most critical people on FFA, mostly because I didn't "get" the ending and I'm completely unfamiliar with the genre, so I couldn't appreciate what they were going for. I was pretty disappointed to see their reaction on Discord because I generally really enjoy their writing (even if that particular fic didn't work for me), and my opinion of them as a person dropped fairly significantly after seeing their reaction.

Rest easy knowing the genre is bullshit (or their attempt at using it as an excuse was) and the ending was rushed. I might have fought it harder, but they’d recently given me a wonderful gift and I felt guilty.
