I'd rather spend my time reading stories in fandoms I know, thank you. And I really can't evaluate stories in fandoms I don't know.

Is it, though? I can judge it objectively on the writing, whether it has a good opening and ending, gets meandering, etc. But if I don't know the fandom and the characters, I can't judge 90% of what's going to make it great (or bad).

I'll read some stories that contain tropes I love if they're in a fandom I'm only barely familiar with, but I've never read a story in a fandom I don't know at all.
