My approach to long multi-chapter works has generally been to comment on each chapter with my thoughts, like my reactions to cliffhangers, theories on what'll happen next, favorite quotes. Then, on the last chapter, give a longer comment about my overall feelings on the fic, the plot, pacing, world-building, etc.

This is my instinct, but normally when I'm reading a multi-chapter fic it's a WIP so that kind of speculation feels more organic. Honestly, I probably should have stopped as I was going along but it was so much fun that I couldn't help myself.... Maybe I can try to recreate my sense of suspense as I went along.
