I suspect most of those saying "don't go to the mods" are saying it because they fear that someday they'll screw up and get turned in. If authors are so insecure that a slight rebuke from the mods would ruin their yuletide, then maybe they need to grow up.

Meanwhile all the mods are begging people to tell so future mods know if we should double-assign recipients or scan someone's future fics while comparing to DNWs and character requests.

Shhh, mods definitely don't want to know and you're just being a big baby by caring about stupid shit like THE BARE MINIMUM RULES! Listen to the people telling you to handle it yourself in a kangaroo court they can rubberneck at or by sucking it up! They definitely have yours and the exchange's best interests at heart.
