Fuck you, I googled it and Leona https://junglemperorleo.fandom.com/wiki/Leona is his sister and guards furs in a temple. The wiki is vague about it, but (quote wiki) In the latter episode, Leona is revealed to Kimba to be dead and killed by The Black Four. Coco asks Kimba (Leo) if he wants to take revenge on those who killed her, but Kimba refuses due to his kind-hearted nature. Eventually, it turns out that Leona was only stuck in the shrine and couldn’t escape. In the 1966 English Dub of the series, she is instead captured by the four panthers. Kimba doesn’t wish to save her because he is reminded of when she called him a “softie” he refuses to help her, so I don't doubt that some sort of speech where she accuses him happens too. The only part I was wrong about was selling the furs.

LOL, that's your idea of getting owned? Someone trying to prove themselves right by googling?

How else do you think people should find summaries of the canon(s) in question if not by googling?

Your googling also find The Lion King design studies on which the main character lion is written as Kimba?

SA
And the issue with the Simba-Kimba thing isn't even that it's pretty obvious what Disney took inspiration from. Osamu Tezuka was flattered. The issue is that Disney denied that any of their team had even known that Kimba the White Lion existed or seen any pictures of it and The Lion King was just created in a vacuum.

This.

You're a moron, to not only admit you don't remember the movie but to then actually try to use googling as proof that you're right.

Disney ripped off Kimba. It's a well-known fact.

Funny how you're too stupid to know that Kimba the White Lion was several anime series and not "a movie", and yet you think you get to call people stupid, huh.

Googling turned up summaries of Kimba, which, if you had actually read the link provided, confirmed all of my memories except for the selling furs part (and that one's an easily explained mistake - the sister guards the furs of their ancestors, so she likely says they have sentimental value at some point. Presumably the translator who did my country's dub only said value and kid!me assumed value meant they were to be sold.)

I don't see why anyone should listen to you, since you clearly know less about one of the two canons you're talking about than someone who openly admits to vague childhood memories (which turned out to be correct!).

Maybe take a look at any of the resources you can easily google and educate yourself. Does Simba get kidnapped by humans? No. Does a ship sink, killing his mom and everyone else? No. Does Simba ever encounter a radioactive grasshoper that mutated to giant size? No.

The similarities are all common tropes. Lions as kings of the animals? Common. Disney main character's parent dies? Common. Deposed prince returns to reclaim his kingdom? Common. Dead parent's ghost returns to influence the plot? Common (everyone from Hamlet to Star Wars has done it!).

Now if Lion King had copied any of the wilder plots of Kimba the White Lion, you might have a point (radioactive giant grasshoppers for example, or even a sister guarding ancestor furs in a shrine) but just going "it's both lions! cartoon lions!" is not sufficient evidence.

As a matter of fact, there are at least two Kimba movies. One of them from 1966.

Movies, anime series, manga... there's plenty of canon. Which the anon who claimed I was a moron who doesn't remember "the movie" clearly doesn't know.
