Same. I bet we got both picked up by one of those shit writers in EAD who wanted to get pinch hits so they could post their own requests to the pinch hitter post.

Silex was the only one of those, as far as I saw. Everyone else was talking about inspiring prompts and stuff.

Which doesn't mean you didn't both get picked up by that sort of person, but at most one of them was open about it on EAD.

I wouldn't think a pinch hitter who turned in uninspired work is necessarily that selfish/malicious, unless your pinch hitter happened to be Silex. But I do think one of the very few downsides to how quickly pinch hits get snapped up for Yuletide is that some people might just get caught up in the rush, and will grab a pinch hit before really thinking through whether they can write for it or not.

This is why I wish they had another method other than throwing a batch out at random and doing first come first served. I don't know exactly how they would fix it.

I feel like an easy way to fix is to send a batch of pinch hits out, wait maybe 6-12 hours?, and then assign it to a random number between the people who requested them. Obviously for apoca and emergency pinch hits, those can still be first come first serve as usual.

They did try something similar one year and it was unmanageable.

cyrt Genuinely curious and not trying to be combative, but what went wrong there? Just too many e-mails to handle?

I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and assume that they did have an idea when they claimed it but realized too late that it wasn't 1k words worth of one, but it was still a major disappointment.
