Advice needed

Last night in a last-minute panic I uploaded the wrong version of a very last-minute treat. I had a first draft, and a draft where I'd fixed the mixed-up names, fleshed out a couple of parts, and formatted properly. That's not the one that got posted.

But right after posting, I always scan to be sure. And in a frustrated double panic, I fixed the errors I saw in that draft, not even realizing what I'd done (I'd had a little wine, ngl), and fixed the misnaming and formatting.

This morning, a quick scan made it obvious what had happened, so I replaced that mess with the final version I had (which still had a few errors I fixed after upload, tbh).

It's obscure and was unwrangled overnight, and has only a couple of hits.

Would you just leave it and not worry about it, maybe anon message the recip to say if you read that early or have the tab open, please refresh the page and try to forget the early bungle, or would you yank it and post it to Madness instead?

The recip hasn't commented on any of their stories yet, and I'm hoping with all my heart they have been to busy to even scan it. Don't drink and upload, kids.

If it's easy to do I'd shoot a quick message to the recip, but I wouldn't stress about it too much.

As someone who stumbled upon a clear placeholder/draft gift after the collection opened (not you; it wasn't a last minute treat but had been up for a week) and was fairly dismayed, I'd suggest leaving a short author's note that you accidentally uploaded the wrong version. And if the recip comments within a day, maybe reply and tell them about the version mix-up (unless their comment makes it obvious that they've seen the new version).

It's a big awkward, but those things happen when you're in a rush, and I'm sure the recip understands, even if they saw the old version (which they might not have). Don't worry too much about it, coalie.

It was a finished draft and everything, but it was the earliest version. I probably need to stop writing that way and continually edit just one file. I also should have just resigned to putting it in madness today and not been in such a rush. Ah well! Thanks!

CYRT

Honestly, if it was complete and not a completely different fic from the final version, I probably wouldn't worry about it at all. :)

this might be all moot since it's a late reply (haven't had time for coal during the holidays), but i did this once too. i felt real awkward at the time, but i don't think my recip ever noticed so it worked out in the end. i hope it turned out all right for you too, and that - if your recip noticed - they didn't give you any grief about it.
