Coalie in Post-DeadlineLand

Coalie was beginning to get very tired of waiting for their gift to be posted, and of having nothing to shake: once or twice they had peeped into the tags of the fic their dentist had been gifted, but it had no characters or freeforms on it, "and what is the use of a fic," thought Coalie, "without ships or tags?"

If my fic is centered around two enemies A and B interacting with each other, should I tag it "A & B"?

My instinct says yes, but I'm not sure if "&" specifically means friendship or that they like each other.

I wouldn’t use a relationship tag at all for that type of fic, no.

How are they interacting? If it's implied future enemies to friends or enemies to lovers I would probably tag.

No, they stay enemies throughout. I just won't add a relationship tag. Thanks, all!

If there is some kind of significant relationship between them, such as being forced to grudgingly work together, a cathartic confrontation, or even a cat and mouse game, I think you can tag the & and make it clear through the rest of your tags what the nature of the relationship is.

If it's a more generic impersonal hero vs villain dynamic, like Mulder vs a monster of the week, then maybe not.

They're both main characters where the rivalry is central to the canon, and they had a mentor/protegee relationship before becoming rivals.

Hopefully if I leave off the tag it should be fine. I think it's clear enough from the other tags and the summary what the story will be about (and the fandom is tiny, so people probably aren't relying on filters as much they might for a larger fandom).

A teacher/student relationship that turned into rivalry? That sounds fantastic! I guess there's no way you could tell me what the canon is though, huh...

The & doesn't have to be any kind of friendly or positive relationship; it's just used to indicate a significant relationship in the fic. If it's all about their relationship and interactions, I would tag it.

+1

I would say definitely tag it if their interactions are important to the story.
