Thinking about writing a treat, but I'm not sure if the plot I'm thinking about goes against the spirit of what they're asking for. They say porn is fine, but they don't want a PWP.

Would writing a fic where the plot revolves around something similar to coming to the conclusion that they have to use sex magic and then performing the ritual be too much of a PWP? (I'm not worried about the potential dub-con of that kind of scenario, they like that part.)

I think it's more about the percentage of fic that's porn. If you write a 3,000 word treat and 1,000 of it is porn, that's probably fine. If you write a 1,300 word treat and 1,000 of it is porn, that doesn't sound like what they're looking for.

I guess this is something many of us are going to have different takes on. I'm not a fan of PWP, but don't care if the whole story is porn. I just want enough going along with it to make it more than just sex acts. So percentage of story as porn doesn't matter to me much. 100% is probably going to be a PWP judging by what's out there, but it doesn't have to be.

I think that's porn with just enough plot to miss being a PWP. There's a reason for the sex besides just having sex. A lot depends on the fandom and the general tone of their requests, I think, and how sex magic figures into the material. Is it out of the blue or part of the canon and so could reasonably pop up, that type of thing.

Speaking as someone who's not wild about PWPs but who does like porn-heavy stories in certain fandoms, I'd read the fuck out of a potentially reluctant but necessary sex magic ritual. (In fact one of my prompts is similar enough that I hope you tag the sex magic part so I can find this in the collection!) Maybe my take is different but I see fuck-or-die, sex pollen and other tropes as porn with plot as long as there's a good enough set up and the second sentence isn't "Ope, that was a sex pollen spell, looks like we hafta fuck." The build is what elevates it and the emotions each person experiences over the situation, IMO
