Coalie in Post-DeadlineLand

Coalie was beginning to get very tired of waiting for their gift to be posted, and of having nothing to shake: once or twice they had peeped into the tags of the fic their dentist had been gifted, but it had no characters or freeforms on it, "and what is the use of a fic," thought Coalie, "without ships or tags?"

Sometimes. There's also some people who use it for everything, whether it needs a warning or not, out of principle or over-caution. There's also some people who use it to mean "I think this needs a warning, but it's not one of the archive warnings". So it could be a lot of things.

(I was just wondering the other day why there isn't more of a push in exchange culture to DNW 'choose not to warn'. Seems like there are plenty of people who wouldn't DNW that stuff who would still want to *know*.)

Because it's probably not something the mods would find reasonable to enforce. "Don't include content your recip has explicitly opted out of" is a sensible rule; "tag your fic in your recip's preferred manner" is less so.

Ayrt: "Tag in your recip's preferred manner" seems unreasonable, yeah, but 'please warn me if there's rape' seems pretty simple.

You're welcome to request it, and most people will comply for a gift fic, but it's not a reasonable requirement. That's why CNTW is even a thing in the first place.

...okay, I'm really stumped. Why is "Warn me if there's rape" *less* reasonable than "Don't write me rape"?

It is reasonable but there's other ways to warn where someone can still click the choose not to use archive warnings warn box.

That’s a terrible idea, I wonder if it’ll catch on.
