Coalie was beginning to get very tired of waiting for their gift to be posted, and of having nothing to shake: once or twice they had peeped into the tags of the fic their dentist had been gifted, but it had no characters or freeforms on it, "and what is the use of a fic," thought Coalie, "without ships or tags?"

Every Yuletide there is always a fandom that I really want but didn't ask for, either because I spontaneously forgot its existence specially for noms week, or consumed it after noms had closed. Every. Dang. Year.

Had the courage to ask for all weird shit I wanted. Every time I've managed to scrape up the courage to do so someone has taken pity on me and written it and I'd probably have all the freaky stories of my heart right now if I could do it consistently.

I wish I hadn't offered Any for that fandom that one year. I had hoped to write lush, decadent D/s for pairing A/B, and ended up with a recip who wanted domestic fluff for A/C. I also ship A/C and have nothing against domestic fluff, but I can never quite get C's voice right and I think the story suffered for that.

I wish I hadn't signed up on that one year when everything sucked and my depression was at its worst. The fic I wrote wasn't coal, but writing it was agony. On top of that I couldn't really muster up the enthusiasm for my own gift, which was lovely.

I haven't missed a Yuletide in over ten years and I wasn't about to do it then either. Now I say, screw traditions if they don't spark joy.

Not put so much effort into a multi-media project gift that the recip didn't interact with and, if my guess is right, didn't even bother reading.

Years ago my recip asked for brother/sister incest and I couldn't bring myself to do it. Now I'll write just about anything and try really hard to incorporate everything my recip asked for, and I wish that recip was still around so I could give them a do-over.
