It's possible, but it seems just as likely to me that a dozen other things happened. Like, they picked it up based on having played part of one of the VNs, and when they went to review canon they realized they'd misremembered something and couldn't make it work. Or they picked it up based on a promo post and hated it. Or their life got torpedoed in the last couple of weeks. And so on.
