+1 especially because it's so easy to hide them with a script or whatever. Unless they are using tags to troll, it's all good!

it's not that easy to hide with a script on phones, though, which is my primary way of reading ao3. i can hide all tags easily, which i do for scrolling reasons, but if i expand them to see what content is tagged, i get pissed off if i have to read someone's soliloquy, too.

The hide the with a script advice is always touted as a solution, but it doesn't really help. Most people want to be able to see functional and informative tags, so hiding them all isn't helpful.

It'd be easier if people who liked the chatty tumblr style tags had some sort of system where important info tags went first, then the chatty tags after. But you often get lengthy blocks of tags like first fic in the fandom, character's a plus parenting, self harm, the author regrets nothing, i don't know where this is going, lots of feels, graphic depictions of cutting, character's a precious cinnamon roll protect at all costs, characters being angsty as fuck, sexual abuse, sad character, but don't worry he'll get better, etc etc. only much longer, though the new limits have helped cut that down a bit. But the useful stuff that people might want to filter on is buried in the middle of the waffle.

A better solution, though I doubt it'd ever happen would be to have two fields, one for site wide filterable tags, and one just for the author's tag chatter

We have that already, it's called "author's notes"

LOL right?! They're right there.

Maybe we should rename the field "chatty tags"

+2

you get two whole sections for them and everything.

Lol, no. Author's notes aren't visible til you click on the fic so aren't remotely the same thing. People want their tags to be visible to users browsing, some love the chatty tags, others hate them, but tags and notes fill entirely different functions.

Oh, right. I hide additional tags in my account settings, I forget some people don't have to click through.

You're absolutely right, tags and author's notes fill entirely different functions! Which is why the latter shouldn't be parsed out in the former. People clicking in and always opting into seeing them isn't the hardship you're making this out to be.

Exactly this! The function of the tags is NOT to put your chatty asides! That is the WHOLE POINT OF THE COMPLAINT.

There's the "hide additional tags" preference, but I agree in that longer tags should go into author's notes!
