The Coalies Are Back In Town

Friday night they'll be dressed to kill
Down at Coaltide Bar'n'Grill
The receipts will flow and wank will spill
And if the coalies wanna fight, you better let 'em
That jukebox in the corner blastin' out my favorite song
The nights are getting longer, it won't be long
Won't be long 'til Yuletide comes
Now that the coalies are here again

I spy a coalie who thinks the promo post is the evidence post.

I've gotten more engagement with fandoms there than the promo post anyway, it's not wrong <_<

Re: Promo Post

Are we supposed to talk to people on the promo post? It always felt rude to me.

Re: Promo Post

(Anonymous) 2021-09-19 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Coalie, I think it's OK to do it. I sure love it when people squee with me about my small fandoms!

Re: Promo Post

I think if you're planning on writing it then I (personally) wouldn't interact because it's too easy to de-anon yourself preemptively.

If you're going to request it too, or would eventually be interested in reading the fic that is produced (this would probably be a great thing for a Good Egg* to do, to let any potential authors know it's not really a fandom of two) but won't be offering/requesting, then commenting can't do anything but help, I think.

* the only downside being that if they think you, the Good Egg, may write it and are therefore intimidated and decide not to write it...

Rude? It's completely fine.

I wonder if the feeling that it’s rude/weird is (mis)attributed to how people hate when others make chitchat on the letters post/nomination coordinating posts because it means you can’t edit it anymore?

coalie upthread

Yeah, that's the main reason, that you'll no longer be able to edit your promo if I talk to you about it. And people just don't reply to them that often, so then it feels like you're not supposed to.

Yo, coalies, it's nomination time

Seconding Moriarty the Patriot. The vampire one sounds interesting too.

Sorry for the potentially dumb question (I promise I looked around the admin and other comm) but is there a nomination reporting post/spreadsheet? Is it just not up yet or has that kind of thing moved over to Discord rather than DW?

No, I don't think there is one anywhere yet.

The usual Yuletide spreadsheet anon over at FFA said they wouldn't be able to do it this year, due to real life. Someone else might take it over, but at this point I don't think there's anything.

Re: what are you thinking about nomming?

The only thing I knew I wanted to nominate somehow sneaked over the thousand complete English 1k+ word fic in the last couple of months without me noticing. >:(

How gauche is it to copy/paste my promo from two years prior?

Re: Promo Post

(Anonymous) 2021-09-20 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Not at all…however if you haven’t had any/many takers, it may ne worth giving a refresh.

Re: Promo Post

(Anonymous) 2021-09-20 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Why would it be?

And even if it was... who would notice?

Re: Promo Post

(Anonymous) 2021-09-20 11:05 am (UTC)(link)
Not even the tiniest bit gauche. Okay I strained my brain really hard to think of a situation where it would be gauche, and I came up with: you aren't going to nominate it, you just want people to know it exists. That would be annoying.

People who've read it already will skim over it or reconsider it. No skin off their nose, no harm. People who haven't read it are your target audience and they're who matter and it's useful new information!

Any recs for WW1-related canons? Military-focused or otherwise. I've got a new historical obsession and I'd love to pick up some new canons that I could offer for Yuletide.

probably the new Cat Sebastian series (Cabots, set in post-McCarthy US) -- I really liked the couple in the first book, and it was super short so there's a lot of room for expansion.

I'm a little torn for the rest. I would like to request the Chinese live action adaptation of Prince of Tennis, but I have unpopular ships and the English-speaking fandom is minuscule to begin with so the odds of anybody wanting to write what I want to read are not good. and it's not a "oh let me just pimp this" fandom -- it's a long TV show and it's honestly not very good if you don't already love sports anime tropes. so maybe I'll stick with books this year \o/
